The HTC Droid DNA may not be talked about much now, but it still deserves mention as the first handset to come with a 5-inch, 1080p display. And according to HTC, the new Android 4.4 KitKat platform should be rolling out soon for Droid DNA users.
HTC has long frustrated device owners with its delayed Android version upgrades, as well as its often canned and uninformative responses to users asking about the status of certain updates or unreleased devices. But the company has since made an effort to speed up the updating process, while being more helpful and transparent when answering customer queries.
According to one of those responses, where a Twitter user asked why the HTC One and Samsung and Motorola devices are “getting all the love”, or getting updated to Android 4.4 ahead of other phones, the Droid DNA will get updated “by the end of Q1 (2014).” This is, however, pending carrier certification, so Q1 2014 is not by any means set in stone.
As the Verizon-exclusive Droid DNA is still on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, this could mean HTC will skip Android 4.3 and get the U.S. Butterfly variant upgraded straight to Android 4.4. Then again, details on an update to Android 4.3 have never been too definite, so there’s still a possibility of Android 4.3 bridging the gap between Jelly Bean and KitKat.
As for other older HTC phones, there’s still no word whether devices like the HTC One X will get updates to Android 4.4, or when they would get those updates.
